What is English Test A2 / ESOL Entry Level 2 / A2 CEFR / GESE Grade 3?
English Test A2 (also known as A2 CEFR or ESOL Entry Level 2 or GESE Grade 3) is must for the applicants seeking for extension purposes (spouse/parent visa extension/further leave to remain). ESOL stands for 'English for Speakers of Other Languages', CEFR stands 'Common European Framework Reference for Languages' & GESE stands for 'Graded Examinations in Spoken English'. This test has only two modules "Speaking and Listening".
According to the changes done in Home Office requirements in November 2016, after two and a half years stay in the UK, non-European Economic Area (non-EEA) nationals need to pass A2 test at an approved SELT centre in order to prove that they have become more fluent in daily conversations in English language over time.
Please note that there is no need to pass 'Life in the UK Test' for extension purposes but candidate can appear for A2 test if he/she has already given A1 English test. If candidate has already passed A1 test, then he/she needs to pass A2 test for the purpose of further leave to remain (spouse/parent visa extension).
